How thick should a slab be for a shed vs a garage?
A garden shed base is typically 75-100mm, while a garage or carport slab needs to be thicker (often 100-125mm) with reinforcement, depending on what’s driving or parking on it.
Do I need council approval for a concrete slab?
It depends on the size and use — a small garden shed base usually doesn’t need approval, but slabs for garages, extensions or anything structural generally do. We can advise based on your specific job.
How long before I can build on a new slab?
You can generally start light framing work after about a week, but we recommend waiting the full 28-day cure before any heavy structural loading.
What reinforcement do you use in slabs?
We use steel mesh as standard, sized to the slab’s purpose, with additional reinforcement bar for anything carrying heavier structural loads.
