What's the difference between stencilled, stamped and coloured concrete?
Stencilled concrete uses a pattern laid into the surface before colour is applied, stamped concrete is textured with moulds to mimic pavers or stone, and coloured concrete is simply tinted plain concrete — each gives a different look and price point.
Does decorative concrete cost more than plain concrete?
Yes, the extra colouring, patterning and sealing work means decorative finishes cost more than plain concrete, though less than full paving in most cases.
How do you maintain decorative concrete finishes?
Occasional resealing (roughly every 2–3 years) keeps the colour and pattern looking sharp and protects against staining.
Does decorative concrete crack or lift like pavers do?
It’s far less prone to lifting than loose pavers since it’s poured as one solid slab, though like any concrete it can develop hairline cracks over time, which proper base preparation minimises.
How long does exposed aggregate take to cure before it's safe to use?
Similar to standard concrete, it’s generally safe to walk on within a few days and take vehicle traffic after about a week, with full cure at 28 days.
Is exposed aggregate more expensive than plain concrete?
Yes, it costs more than plain concrete due to the extra finishing work needed to expose and seal the stone, but it’s generally cheaper than fully decorative finishes.
Does exposed aggregate need sealing, and how often?
Yes, sealing protects the surface and keeps the colours sharp — we recommend resealing every 2–3 years depending on sun and foot traffic exposure.
